What is the Treasure Chest?[it]Cos'è il cestino dei tesori?
The central element of the educational program is a real basket full of everyday objects, built with natural materials (wood, metal, fabric, ceramic, leather, fur, paper and cardboard), capable of supporting the child's cognitive development through the exploration of all the senses:
- → feel texture, shape, weight
- → Smell variety of odors
- → taste more limited scope, but still possible
- → sound, rings, pops, squeaks
- → sight color, shape, length, gloss
- Sensation of body movement.
The adult, during this activity, should not take an active role by offering objects to the child or helping. It is important that the child is free to choose, experiment, try and try again. The adult has the important emotional role of being the significant presence that can bring security to the child and allow him to learn by playing.
The Treasure Chest is definitely an extraordinary learning experience on several levels:
-Promotes mother-child relationship;
-Facilitates social interaction among children ;
-Supports a dialogue and exchange between mothers.
This activity is designed for groups of 6/7 mothers with children 6-12 months old. The meetings are once a week for two hours in the presence of an early childhood educator who accompanies,supervises and mediates between the needs of children and the needs of mothers.
 The Treasure Chest is an educational program designed and developed by the English educator Elinor Goldschmied, a leading expert in Europe of early childhood development.
 It is customary to think that children at this stage of life are not interested in each other, in reality, the Treasure Chest offers the opportunity to observe that there is already social interaction between children six months old . This observation is analyzed in the video "Infants at work" by E. Goldschmied in 1989.
